As chef-owner of The Dogwood restaurant, Galen Sampson strives to combine a five-star dining experience with a neighborhood approach. Located in Baltimore's Hampden neighborhood, the Dogwood purchases from local farmers and from sustainable and organic producers wherever possible. Since opening in 2006, the restaurant has earned numerous local and national accolades. Sampson's commitment to great flavor is joined by his commitment to maintaining a team of educated, knowledgeable staff. By partnering with local nonprofits that focus on job readiness and that pre-screen applicants, Sampson has had success in hiring and promoting individuals with criminal records. Some of his most loyal and hardworking employees are those who have been incarcerated and are now dedicated to changing their lives.
